How does a crystal radio overcome the forward voltage drop of the diode being used?

With such little energy that is received thru the radio waves to power a crystal radio, how can that energy be allowed to pass thru the diode when the diode has a forward voltage drop of about 0.3-0.5 volts? How is that done?
