I listen to a radio station streaming on the internet via my computer. However i want my mother who is not computer literate to be able to listen also on a radio (not the computer). I went ahead and checked Sirius’s website and noticed a channel list. The radio station i have been listening to is not included so i am wondering how to get this resolved.

You are probably thinking of a ‘wifi’ radio rather than satellite. There are ‘radios’ that can connect to a wi-fi access point and deliver internet streamed audio without a ‘computer’ — something designed mostly for people who are computer-phobic I assume — available.

This will allow someone to listen to the audio streamed over the internet without using a ‘computer’ to do so.

This is NOT the same thing as satellite radio which is a subscription based service much like cable or satellite TV, but an internet function. If Sirius doesn’t carry the station you are looking for, they it won’t be on their service, Period. I’d suggest either getting a cheap computer and attaching speakers, and just setting up an ‘alias’ to allow your mom ‘one click access’ to the station she wants to stream or investigating the Wi-Fi "radios" out there to see if that will work better for her.

The Radio in my car has a USB port that I can plug into to select music and video to be played that is stored on it. I am wondering if there is a way to use my USB external hard drive instead of flash drive. Currently, when I plug it in, I get the "Found new hardware" sound, but USB option will not display files like it does when I use a real USB thumb drive. Is there a way to make this hard drive act like a thumb drive when plugged in so I can use it?

Thank you

Radio supports Windows CE 6.0 OS

I think it depends on the formatting of the hard drive. Most flash drives are FAT32 while most hard drives are NTFS. You can reformat your hard drive and then copy the music and video back on it.

1. His name is Leavey Walters (working on the name) (he’s an african american)

2. He was born on November 27, 1950

3. He was born in Germany unexpectly. His father was stationed there in the army and his mother went with him.

4. He was a military brat; lived in several countries throughout his childhood

5. He began showing an interest in music at age 2 by standing in front of the stereo

6. He fell 3 stories from a building at age 5 and did not get hurt. He had just got through watching superman and thought he could fly.

7. He would stay with his grandmother whenever his dad was out fighting wars

8. His mother died when he was 15 in her sleep

9. He was engaged to a puerto rican girl when he was 16; later broke the engagement

10. He moved back to the US with his father in 1964

11. He was talked into doing talk radio after reading a report in a classroom and a caucassian female teacher told him he had a nice voice

12. He started out doing high school radio "Soul Teen Report" then moved up to real radio; he became popular

13. He got another gig and was not liked at first

14. He got a gig at a white rock station and felt a degree of discomfort at first since he was the only black

14. Had his first son at age 35, Leavy Jr, born in September 1985

15. Lifelong bachelor; never been married

16. Remembers a time in his childhood when too many black records were not sold; they had to put white faces on black album covers for it to sell.

So how is it so far? Could it be an interesting book?

"6. He fell 3 stories from a building at age 5 and did not get hurt. He had just got through watching superman and thought he could fly.

This "fact" is highly unrealistic and should be changed.. a full grown man could be seriously injured if he were to jump off a two-story building and land without proper training/preparation..
A five-year-old would be killed if he were to fall off a 3-story building.

It’s impossible to tell if the story is interesting based on a few somewhat plain facts on a character. You haven’t provided the plot or any conflicts within it (unless you are planning on writing the story watching your character grow up and become a DJ). There’s a lot more to a story than the characters.. so without knowing anything else, I can’t say if it would be interesting or not.

I recommend you use a character chart to flesh out your character.
Here’s a great one:
http://www.epiguide.com/ep101/writing/charchart.html

Keep planning and working on this.
Good luck.

I would like to start a weekly radio show on my college’s internet radio station with old recordings of the Mercury Theater shows. Does anyone know if that would violate copyright laws (or other applicable law relating to radio broadcast)?

Thanks for your help!

Several issues to slice at: whether you need a copyright license for non-profit use in an educational institution, whether it would be a different answer if the "channel" were only accessible to students at the college, whether the original works are copyrighted, and (if so) when do they expire.

The US Copyright law grants a limited exemption for certain educational uses. Read 17 USC s. 110 to see if your proposed use falls under one of them. If not, you may be able to obtain an inexpensive license from the copyright owners (typically the producers and their successor owners).

The Mercury Theater recordings were originally recorded prior to 1973, so they are not covered by any federal copyright. However, state laws prohibit unauthorized publication of sound recordings, so could still find yourself sued for copyright infringement in, say, Massachusetts. They would have to prove, among other things, that you "copied" the recording "without consent" and for the purpose of "profit" from a public performance, or to "sell, rent or transport" any unauthorized copy.

Under many state copyright laws, the copyright NEVER expires. These laws will remain in effect until they are preempted by the federal copyright law in 2067, making all such works "public domain", i.e., no longer covered by any copyright in the USA.

I have a band. I won’t tell you the name or anything yet because my "band" is just me and 3 other friends who write rock music and we practice. But how do we even start? First, how do I make my band name official so that nobody is allowed to steal it? Second, how do we play our first gig and more later? I heard you need a manager but where do I find one? Please don’t recommend a friend because they want "REAL" jobs. Not the people in our band but other friends want real jobs. I’m sorry about all the questions, but there’s more. Also, how do I record an album we already wrote? Then, how do we have the songs put on millions of CDs? Next, how to we make stores sell those CDs like the real bands? Next, how do we get our songs played on the radio like real bands? Also, what are record labels for and is it easier to get famous through them? Also, how do we go from playing at restaurants and small gigs, to large stadiums that guns n roses and led zeppelin played? How do we get music videos played on tv and whatnot? Lastly, who do we go to once we have recorded our first album? Where does that recording go and what do we do with it? How does it go to the shelf of stores and how to get it played on radio? Lastly, I promise, how can we get famous? If THOUSANDS of bands can do it, I think we have a shot at it. Sorry for all the questions but we have NO CLUE what to do or where to start. ABSOLUTLY nothing. Please answer the questions and don’t tell us keep dreaming or whatever. All famous bands career began with dreams of success.

You can’t make your band name official so that nobody can steal it if you’re not big.

To play your first gig, make sure that you have a set list first, then look online or in the paper for places that are looking for bands. If you can’t find any, go to local bars and restaurants and see if they have any live music played there and try to get in there.

You don’t need a manager until you are big. Don’t get ahead of yourself.

To record an album, go to a recording studio.

Put the songs on the CDs yourself, or if the recording studio will do it for you, have them do it. Don’t make millions of CDs. Make about 30 or so and once you sell them, make more.

To get places to sell your CD, ask a store owner. You can’t just make a company buy your CD and sell it. They’ll only do it if you’re good. Same with getting on the radio, ask a local station to play your stuff. If they like it, chances are they will.

Record labels market your CD basically, you should be well known (played in quite a few towns/cities) to get approached by one, if one approaches you while you’re still fairly unknown, chances are, they’re trying to just take your money. It’s easier to get famous through them though, you just have to be very careful. In the end, you’ll only get famous by your talent though.

You’re gonna just have to work your way up through the gig ladder. You’ll eventually get bigger and bigger crowds.

To get music videos on TV, it’s extremely hard work. You’ll have to be already big and famous for a TV station to even look at you. Secondly, your music video must be of high quality to be played, you don’t want some crappy video shot with a cell phone in your basement.

Getting famous is all about your talent, just because you say "thousands" of bands can do it doesn’t mean it’s easy. It’s one of the hardest ways to make a living in the entertainment industry. Never think you’re gonna be famous. Just let it happen. Bands may start with dreams of success, but it doesn’t matter what your dreams are, it matters how you put those dreams into action, and with your actions, I believe you can do it.
