    This is a perfect example of why the Clash were so great: a willingness to embrace a wide variety of music styles. If they’d just stayed in the same mode as their first album it would’ve gotten boring very quickly. They always went with whatever they felt like and all the better for it.

    i agree,..the country is in a state,..in 76/77 there were 3 day weeks, Brixton and Toxteth riots, high unemployement , it was like the come down after the party that was the 60’s,…so tunes like “white riot” and “career opportunities” summed it up, people were skint and angry/ let down, by the Government.
    so yeah, some of the issues the Clash sang about could be applied to todays society,..thats why the band and there music will always be relivent,..
